The Diocese of California was
organized in 1850. Originally the Diocese of California covered all of

Area Ministry in the Diocese of CaliforniaArea Ministry was born out of a coordinated strategic planning effort for the Diocese of California.
That effort, the Beloved Community Vision,
was created by means of a year long, diocese-wide planning process
that involved close to 1,000 people. http://www.diocal.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=585&Itemid=500
